Au contraire, it was possibly about the most interesting things you've ever posted.

Re: Windows 10

Yep, Blackcomb was the original successor to XP, and Longhorn was supposed to be the intermediate step between XP and Blackcomb.
However, Longhorn eventually took on most of the features that were slated to go into Blackcomb and became the development that was released. Blackcomb was later scrapped - it was restarted as Vienna, taking on the Longhorn core and adopting further features that were intended for Blackcomb.
That's possibly the most boring thing I've ever typed

Window 7 development history.
Originally, a version of Windows codenamed Blackcomb was planned as the successor to Windows XP...
Thats what eventually become Windows 7

Re: Windows 10

Ron - that's not correct either. The Windows NT 6 core (on which Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1 run) was the successor to 2000/XP (which is the NT 5 core) and was supposed to contain things like the Win FX file system etc However, Microsoft never get it to work, so they pushed out Vista (Windows Version 6.0), still running on the old NTF files system. When Vista proved so massively unpopular, they quickly refined it and pushed out 7 (Windows version 6.1).
In a command prompt, run Winver on any Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1 machine and you'll see the increase in version number that it relates to

Re: Windows 10

Joe C.
The original development was intended to follow XP, it was full of bugs so they delayed it and pushed through Vista.
Hence why the interface and features took a step back from Vista to something similar to XP with win7.
Looks like they are going to do the same and go back to basics again.

OMM - Not a sexy enough name and not enough distance between that and the disaster that was Windows 8.
Having said that, I run Windows 8 with Classic Shell and it is like shit off a shovel and very user friendly.
Apparently 10 will be a free upgrade for 8 users, so I can't see the changes being much more than cosmetic.
